Take a retainer and apply it to invoices

Collect money up front, hold it against the project, draw it down on later invoices, and refund what's left.

Why this matters

A retainer protects you before work starts, but only if you can see what's held and use it cleanly. This flow takes the payment up front, shows your client the balance in their portal, and applies it to later invoices so nobody has to work out what's left by hand.

The steps

  1. Request a retainer from a projectRequest a retainer from the project; Moodiri creates a payment link for your client.
  2. Pay an invoiceYour client pays the retainer online from the link you send.
  3. Apply a retainer to an invoiceApply the held balance to a draft invoice on the same project.
  4. Cancel or refund a retainerCancel an unpaid request, or refund an active retainer's remaining balance.

Good to know

  • Retainers are paid on a secure checkout page, not the invoice payment page. Your client sees what to expect in Paying a retainer.
  • Your client can see what was paid, applied and remaining on their Overview.
  • A retainer can only be cancelled while it's awaiting payment; after that you refund it.
