# Start a new project and bring the client in

> Turn a signed job into a project with rooms, a client who can sign in, and the questions you need answered before design starts.

## Why this matters

A new project needs three things before design work starts: the project itself, a client who can get into the portal, and the rooms you're designing. Doing them in this order means the invite goes out with something to look at, and the brief is waiting in the portal when your client first signs in.

## The steps

1. [Create a project](https://docs.moodiri.com/projects/create-a-project): Create the project with its name, location, client, markup and client-facing contact.
2. [Add a client to a project](https://docs.moodiri.com/projects/add-a-client-to-a-project): Attach the client, or create a new one, so invoices and the portal know who they're for.
3. [Invite a client to the portal](https://docs.moodiri.com/projects/invite-a-client-to-the-portal): Send the portal invite. The client needs an email address first.
4. [Add a space](https://docs.moodiri.com/spaces/add-a-space): Add each room you're designing, with its type and details.
5. [Attach a brief](https://docs.moodiri.com/spaces/attach-a-brief): Attach a published question flow to a room so the client can tell you about it.
6. [Answer a space brief](https://docs.moodiri.com/for-clients/answer-a-space-brief): Your client answers the brief in their portal, at their own pace.

## Good to know

- Only published question flows can be attached to a room. Create and publish them first, see [Collect a client's brief with question flows](https://docs.moodiri.com/workflows/client-intake-and-briefs).
