# How the client portal works

> Your client portal is a private, branded site where each client sees their project, decides on approvals, pays invoices and chats with you.

The client portal is your firm's own site for clients. It lives at your
[portal address](https://docs.moodiri.com/client-portal/your-portal-address), carries your logo and brand colour, and shows
each client only the projects they are invited to. It replaces long email threads: decisions,
invoices, documents and conversation all sit with the project.

## What your client sees

Once [invited](https://docs.moodiri.com/client-portal/invite-clients-and-manage-access), a client such as Alex Rivera can:

- See the project's [overview](https://docs.moodiri.com/for-clients/overview), spaces and [selections](https://docs.moodiri.com/for-clients/selections).
- Review and answer [approval requests](https://docs.moodiri.com/for-clients/approvals).
- Answer [space briefs](https://docs.moodiri.com/for-clients/spaces-and-briefs) and the [project intake](https://docs.moodiri.com/for-clients/project-intake).
- See and [pay invoices](https://docs.moodiri.com/for-clients/invoices-and-paying).
- Open [documents](https://docs.moodiri.com/for-clients/documents) you share and [chat with you](https://docs.moodiri.com/for-clients/chat-with-your-designer).

## What stays private

You decide what the client sees, and some things never leave your team.

- **Products and documents start hidden.** A product or document only appears in the portal once you
  make it visible to the client. See [client visibility](https://docs.moodiri.com/products/product-page#client-visibility-settings).
- **Internal figures are always removed.** Costs, markup, trade discounts, vendor prices and similar
  internals are stripped from everything the portal shows, even if a screen asks for them.
- **Your team's notes stay internal**, as do vendors and trade terms.

## How clients get in

1. You [send a portal invite](https://docs.moodiri.com/client-portal/invite-clients-and-manage-access) for a project. The client
   gets an email with a link to that project at your portal address.
2. They [sign in](https://docs.moodiri.com/for-clients/signing-in-to-your-portal) and choose the project if they have more than one.
3. Their sign-in lasts up to 30 days on that device.

Clients use a separate sign-in from your team. Team roles and permissions do not apply to them, and
they can only open projects they have been invited to. You can
[revoke access](https://docs.moodiri.com/client-portal/invite-clients-and-manage-access#revoke-portal-access) at any time.

## Limits

- Clients see only products and documents you have made visible to them.
- Costs, markup, trade discounts and vendor prices are never shown in the portal.
- A portal sign-in lasts 30 days.

## Questions

### Can my client see what I paid for a product?

No. Costs, markup, trade discounts, vendor prices and other internal figures are always removed before anything reaches the portal. Clients see their price only.

### How long does my client stay signed in?

Up to 30 days on the same device. After that, they sign in again.

### Do clients need a Moodiri account?

No. They sign in to your portal with their own sign-in, separate from your team's accounts. They cannot open your dashboard.
